The Tofte Cabin

Simplicity and luxury

Picture yourself in The Tofte Cabin. At ease in a deck chair, listening to the sounds of the lake, watching the
ever-changing drama of sky and water.

Completed in 2000, The Tofte Cabin connects us with nature, representing the best in sustainable building. The cabin’s simple aesthetic creates a calm spirit, alternative energy systems keep the cabin comfortable, and beautiful finishes create cozy luxury.

When the 50-year old existing cabin was rebuilt, the nationally recognized design used sustainable building materials and mechanical systems to reduce energy consumption and waste. It was important to the owner that the design was sensitive to the world around it. She was clear she wanted “an earth friendly house” without the waste, site destruction and energy consumption such projects usually generate. Renowned architect Sarah Nettleton, www.sarah-architects.com, and the team of builders and consultants met the challenge. Through innovation and persistence, they succeeded in creating a simple, light filled, luxurious space that honors nature and respects the history and ecology of the site.
