Spring begins today here at Penfield and we are particularly delighted to introduce our brand new Spring/Summer 2011 Collection. This season, we kick off a return to warm weather with a wide-ranging, versatile collection of men’s and women’s outerwear and apparel “for Life in the Open”.


Equal parts style and function, this collection continues to take inspiration from our Massachusetts roots for a comprehensive selection of jackets, shirting, shorts, pants and accessories made to wear from the first days of spring through the last days of summer.






Both our Trailwear and Classic collections return with such familiar favorites as the Gibson and Lockwood jackets, alongside some new silhouettes like the Barnstable, Sconset and Walpole, all featuring our very own wind-resistant and water-repellent Hudson Wax Cloth.


This Spring also sees the introduction of a new Lightweight Hudson Wax Cloth. Perfect for a milder climate, the nylon/cotton blend with wax impregnation wicks moisture away from the body in a lighter fabrication than our original Hudson Wax Cloth.






When it’s warm enough to shed your coat, we also offer a vast array of lightweight tops and bottoms. In addition to enduring styles in plaid and chambray, shirts with contrasting fabrics and unexpected details add a twist to traditional pieces. The vintage garment washing of the Sherborn, the patchwork oxford Stockbridge, and raglan sleeves on the Watertown are all inspired by classic Cape Cod casualwear from the 50’s and 70’s.


Tie-dyed accents, shaped collars and a full range of Polo shirts also round out the collection. Shorts pick up on many of the same cues as the shirting, with the Grafton style alone available in twill, patchwork, tie-dye and oxford. The practical, stylish Selford 6-pocket cargo short with contrast lining is meant to be worn with any number of shirts from this new collection.






Not to be outdone, our Women’s line for Spring/Summer 2011 offers a comprehensive array of timeless Classic and Trailwear silhouettes – including the Anoka overcoat and Walpole field jacket. Our women’s range is finally complemented by the Anzak shirt, a favorite from the men’s collection, as well as our trademark hard-wearing Oxon satchels.

After the success of our recent collaborations with Gitman Bros. and Garbstore, we are very proud to announce that we have teamed up once again with 2010 CFDA Menswear Designers of the Year rag & bone for a brand new, limited edition set of two men’s winter coats and a women’s down jacket for Holiday 2010. This collaboration follows last year’s successful partnership between both brands.






FOR HIM...


Based on our classic Rockford silhouette, the Penfield for rag & bone Mallory down jacket comes in two colorways, with updated fabrication and subtle design details created to complement and combine both brands’ distinctive, rugged aesthetic. The Mallory is available in black thornproof wool with a contrast corduroy shoulder yoke in black and in deep khaki with a dark olive corduroy shoulder yoke. Both jackets feature brown plaid interior lining, two traditionally shaped front chest pockets, two lower welt pockets and custom co-branding on the inside.

The Penfield for rag & bone men’s jackets will hit stores in late November and will retail for $695.

Based on our Women's Stapleton silhouette, the Penfield for rag & bone women’s down jacket features zip-off sleeves for easy conversion into a classic puffer vest. With a hearty, charcoal Schoeller wool exterior and a soft brown plaid interior lining, the jacket is a perfect mix of the practical, stylish outerwear for which Penfield is famous and rag & bone’s signature emphasis on clean tailoring and classic yet modern sportswear. The jacket also features a contrast olive corduroy shoulder yoke, two front chest pockets, two zippered lower welt pockets and custom interior co-branding.

This season, we have developed two shirts in partnership with fine American shirt-makers Gitman Bros. as part of our Fall/Winter 2010 collection. The Gitman Bros. for Penfield collaboration marks the first time we, as classic heritage brands, have worked together, resulting in two authentic “Made in the USA” styles.

Consisting of the Woburn, a 100% cotton blue Oxford shirt, and the Flitton, a rose flannel style, the collaboration meshes Penfield’s traditional durability and practicality with the master construction and fine materials for which Gitman Bros. is known.

Classic Americana references are used throughout, from the traditional chalk buttons that reference Gitman Bros. shirts from the late 1970’s to the Flitton flannel pulled directly from Gitman’s Winter 1982 collection. Both styles feature an 8-button front closure with a contrast split plaquette and a left chest pocket. The shirts are garment washed for a superior feel and fit.

Since Penfield’s humble beginnings in Hudson, Massachusetts, our American identity has been one of the brand’s defining characteristics, reflected in each collection we present. Our collaboration with Gitman Bros., one of the last remaining shirt-makers to manufacture entirely in the USA, was a natural way for us to pay homage to not only Penfield’s American heritage, but the fine tradition of American shirt-making as a whole.
